We understand how much the Busselton Jetty Swim means to our swimming community, and we’re sorry for the uncertainty this created.
The Busselton Jetty Swim Volunteer Organising Committee recognises that an apology alone cannot undo the disappointment, particularly for swimmers who initially received an incorrect successful result.
To acknowledge the impact this has had, we are offering these affected swimmers a guaranteed entry in the 2028 Busselton Jetty Swim in the same distance they registered for in the 2027 ballot, provided they do not secure a place in the 2027 event through the waitlist.
If your 2027 ballot outcome was unsuccessful, you have options you can consider:
Option 1: REMAIN ON THE 2027 WAITLIST
Remain on the waitlist for the opportunity to secure a place in the 2027 event if one becomes available. If you secure a place through the waitlist, you will no longer be eligible for the guaranteed 2028 entry.
Option 2: WITHDRAW FROM THE 2027 WAITLIST FOR A GUARANTEED 2028 ENTRY
If you rare eligible for this offer, you can withdraw from the 2027 waitlist by 4 February 2027 to receive a guaranteed entry in the 2028 Busselton Jetty Swim in the same swim distance registered for in 2027 ballot.
There is no need to rush this decision. You can remain on the waitlist and decide any time up to 4 February 2027, provided you have not already secured a place through being promoted from the waitlist.

ABOUT THE BALLOT SYSTEM FAILURE
What happened to the 2027 ballot?
A technical issue with the new ballot registration system resulted in incorrect ballot emails being sent to swimmers on Monday 12 October. The Busselton Jetty Swim team identified the issue within two hours and worked closely with Race Roster to investigate the failure, resolve the issue and verify the correct ballot outcomes. Accurate ballot result emails, including instructions on the next steps, were sent to swimmers less than 24 hours after the incorrect emails were issued.

Which ballot result should I trust?
Please disregard any ballot outcome emails received on Monday 12 October 2026. Your correct ballot outcome is confirmed in the email sent from Race Roster on Tuesday 13 October.
Do I need to register for the ballot again?
No. You do not need to register again. Please wait for your updated email from Race Roster, which will confirm your correct ballot outcome.

What happens if my 2027 ballot is successful?
Congratulations! Your updated email will confirm your successful ballot outcome and outline any further steps required to secure your entry in the 2027 Busselton Jetty Swim.
Payments will be processed within 24 hours using the payment details provided when you registered for the ballot. Once your payment has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email.
We look forward to welcoming you to Busselton on 13–14 February 2027.
What happens if my 2027 ballot is unsuccessful?
We understand this will be disappointing, particularly given the confusion caused by the incorrect ballot outcome initially communicated. If you received an incorrect successful ballot notification but were unsuccessful in the verified 2027 ballot, you have two options to consider:
- Remain on the 2027 waitlist: You may still secure a place in the 2027 event if one becomes available. If you secure a place through the waitlist, you will no longer be eligible for the guaranteed 2028 entry.
- Withdraw from the 2027 waitlist: You can withdraw from the waitlist by 4 February 2027 to receive a guaranteed entry in the 2028 Busselton Jetty Swim in the same swim distance you registered for in the 2027 ballot. The applicable entry fee will still apply.

Has my payment been processed?
We understand that payment status is a key concern following the ballot system failure.
If your ballot is successful, payment will be processed within 24 hours using the payment details provided when you registered for the ballot.
If you can see a pending transaction or charge on your bank account and have concerns about its status, please contact rego@busseltonjettyswim.org.au.
I selected ‘Pay Now’ and paid for my entry after receiving the initial email. What happens if my correct ballot outcome is unsuccessful?
If you made a payment after receiving the incorrect email and your corrected ballot outcome is unsuccessful, a member of our Registration Team will contact you directly to discuss your situation. You do not need to take any action at this stage.

How do I join the 2027 waitlist?
Unless you opted out during registration, you were automatically placed on the 2027 waitlist. If you wish to remain on the waitlist, no further action is required. You can check your position on the waitlist here.
How do I withdraw from the 2027 waitlist?
There are two ways to withdraw from the 2027 waitlist:
1. Login to your Race Roster participant dashboard, find your application, and click the ‘Cancel ballot application’ button, or
2. Get in touch via email at rego@busseltonjettyswim.org.au and we can do this for you.
Can I stay on the waitlist and enter a team?
No, you must withdraw from the 2027 waitlist before entering a 2 or 4 Person Team Swim.
If I withdraw from the waitlist and join a team, will I still get my guaranteed 2028 entry?
Yes. You can still receive your guaranteed 2028 entry in the same swim distance you registered for in the 2027 ballot, even if you swim in a 2 or 4 Person Team in 2027.

What does a guaranteed entry for 2028 mean?
In recognition of the disruption and uncertainty caused by this incident, the Busselton Jetty Swim Volunteer Organising Committee is offering swimmers who received an incorrect successful ballot notification but were unsuccessful in the verified 2027 ballot a guaranteed entry for the 2028 event in the same swim distance registered for in the 2027 ballot. The applicable entry fee will still apply.
If I remain on the 2027 waitlist and subsequently secure a place for 2027, will I still receive a guaranteed entry for 2028?
No. You will only receive the guaranteed 2028 entry if you do not secure a place in the 2027 event through the waitlist.
If I withdraw from the 2027 waitlist, will I receive a guaranteed entry for 2028?
Yes. If you are eligible for the offer and withdraw from the 2027 waitlist by 4 February 2027, you will receive a guaranteed entry in the 2028 Busselton Jetty Swim for the same distance you registered for in the 2027 ballot. The applicable entry fee will still apply.
When do I need withdraw from the waitlist by to receive the guaranteed 2028 entry ?
There is no need to rush this decision.

What about travel arrangements made after receiving the initial ballot email?
We understand that some swimmers may have made travel or accommodation arrangements based on the initial ballot communications, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience this has caused.
As a community-run, not-for-profit event, the Busselton Jetty Swim is unable to provide compensation for individual travel or accommodation costs.
