Busselton Jetty Swim has scooped the pool at the inaugural City of Busselton Sports Awards, held in early November 2023.
Busselton Jetty Swim was named Event of the Year, event co-founders won the Lifetime Achievement Award, and our treasurer Trish Vickery also took home the Sports Person of the Year Award.
The City of Busselton Sport Awards recognise and celebrate individuals, teams, clubs and organisations that make a significant contribution to the sports community in Busselton.
Jetty Swim co-founders Max and Jenny Higgins; Richard and Leanne Ford were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of the impact they have made on the Busselton community. The two couples had the idea to swim around the Jetty in 1995, and 82 people participated in the inaugural event. The is now held annually and is spread across two days, with more than 5200 swimmers expected to hit the water in 2024. The couples managed the volunteer organising committee for 25 years.
The Busselton Jetty Swim also won Event of the Year for its remarkable planning and execution, and for provides participants with a sense of achievement and wellbeing while creating joy and connection with the whole community.
Our dedicated and inspiring Treasurer, Trish Vickery also took home the Sports Person of the Year Award. Trish is a triathlete who recently competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Lahi (Finland), finishing 5th in her age group ( 65-69).
Busselton Jetty Swim was also named as a finalist in the 2023 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards, for the second year running. The awards are organised by the Tourism Council of Western Australia and recognise excellence, innovation and professionalism in the WA tourism industry.
