Busselton Jetty Swim is heavily reliant on volunteer support. Our volunteers take on a variety of roles, and it’s a great way to be a involved – without getting wet!

If you’re aged 14 or over*, and free to help on Saturday 8 February, Sunday 9 February 2025, or even both days we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll be fully briefed on the tasks required prior to your rostered time, and will also receive refreshments, a t-shirt, plus endless entertainment. You’ll also be in the running for some fantastic prizes donated by our wonderful sponsors!

*Anyone under 18 will need to be rostered alongside a parent or guardian.

Volunteer Position - DETAILS

These times and duties are a guide and may change nearer to the event.

SWIMMER CHECK-IN

Shifts:

  • Saturday 8 February – 8:30am to 1:00pm
  • Saturday 8 February – 1:00pm to 5:15pm
  • Sunday 9 February – 5:45am to 8:00am 

Various tasks including:

  • Check swimmer details on tablet, note any changes
  • Hand out swimmer registration envelopes and explain contents.
  • Assist with marshalling
  • Induction and supervision provided

Where: Check-in tent, Signal Park

Provisions:

  • Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities
  • Volunteer thank you function

MERCHANDISE

Shifts:

  • Saturday 8 February – 8:45am to 1:00pm
  • Saturday 8 February – 12:45pm to 5:15pm
  • Sunday 9 February – 7:00am to 11:00am 

Various tasks including:

  • Merchandise sales and restocking
  • Experience with retail sales including electronic payment methods would be an advantage
  • Induction and supervision provided

Where: Merchandise tent at Signal Park

Provisions:

FRUIT PREPARATION

Shifts:

  • Saturday 8 February – 11:00am to 12:00pm

Various tasks including:

  • Cut up watermelon ready for swimmers exiting the swim.
  • Group assembly line style
  • Induction and supervision provided

Where: Grassed area west of Kyst

Provisions:

  • Refreshments provided 
  • Volunteer thank you function

FRUIT & WATER DISTRIBUTION

Shifts:

  • Sunday 9 February – 7:30am to 11:30am 

Various tasks including:

  • Setting up tables ready for fruit and water distribution
  • Setting out fruit and water for swimmers
  • Keeping area clean
  • Packing up tables and equipment
  • Supervision and instruction provided

Where: Busselton Jetty foreshore

Provisions:

  • Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities
  • Volunteer thank you function

EVENT ASSISTANCE – Team Swim, SIMON’s 500M SHORTCUT & KIDS SWIM

Shift:

  • Saturday 8 February – 12:30pm to 4:00pm 

Various tasks including:

  • Set up equipment and provide guidance to swimmers applying race number tattoos (swimmers apply their own tattoos.)
  • Assist with marshalling swimmers and spectators around the start lines
  • Setting up tables for timing band audit
  • Move finisher awards to finish line
  • Issue finisher item to swimmers exiting finish chute
  • Collect timing bands and return to registration tent
  • Wash, sort and pack timing bands into numerical order for swimmer audit
  • Setting up tables ready for fruit and water distribution
  • Setting out fruit and water for swimmers
  • Packing up tables and equipment
  • Induction, and supervision provided

Where: Signal Park & Busselton Jetty foreshore

Provisions:

  • Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities

One MILE SWIM to Shore

Shift:

  • Sunday 9 February – 6:45am to 11:30am 

Various tasks including:

  • Walk the equipment trolley to the landing
  • Marshal swimmers along the Jetty
  • Control the jump zone
  • Assistance from SES (marshalling) and SLS (water safety)
  • Guide entering swimmers over the timing mat.
  • Induction, Job safety procedure and transition plan provided

Where: Busselton Jetty Observatory Landing area

Provisions:

  • Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities

JETTY ENTRY / EXIT MARSHALL 

Shifts:

  • Sunday 9 February – 7:00 am to 11:00am 

Various tasks including:

  • Monitor entering and exiting swimmers for numbering, timing band, swim-cap.
  • Ask exiting swimmers to remove timing band and leave at the audit station.
  • Issue finisher’s towel to team swimmers exiting Jetty
  • Direct finishing swimmers to the area for fruit and water
  • Carry timing bands to race check-in
  • Induction, Job safety procedure provided

Where: Base of the Jetty near the Interpretive Centre

Provisions:

  • Long sleeve Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities

 

INFORMATION Tent

Shifts:

  • Saturday 8 February – 11:00 am to 2:00 pm 
  • Saturday 8 February – 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm 
  • Sunday 8 February – 7:00 am to 12:00 pm 

Various tasks including:

  • Provide information to the public
  • Set up equipment
  • Provide guidance to swimmers applying race number tattoos (swimmers are to apply their own tattoos)
  • Distribute sunscreen, Event Programs and flyers
  • Resources, induction, and supervision provided

Where: Amphitheatre on foreshore

Provisions:

  • Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities
  • Volunteer thank you function

RECOVERY

Shifts:

  • Sunday 9 February – 8:00am to 12:00pm 

Various tasks including:

  • Setting up tables for timing band audit
  • Move finisher towels to finish line
  • Take finisher towels to start of Jetty
  • Collect timing bands and return to registration tent
  • Issue finisher’s towel to swimmers exiting finish chute
  • Wash and pack timing bands 
  • Induction, Job safety procedure provided

Where: Grassed area, and finish area west of the Kyst

Provisions:

  • Busselton Jetty Swim t-shirt to be worn whilst volunteering
  • Refreshments; snacks, water, tea & coffee making facilities

EVENT OPERATIONS

Shifts:

  • Saturday 8 February – 9:00 am to 1:00 pm 
  • Saturday 8 February – 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm 
  • Sunday 9 February – 6:00 am to 11:00 am (must have volunteered in same role on Saturday)

Various tasks including:

  • Sign radios in/out
  • Update record log
  • Assist attendees with directions and general information
  • Site runner
  • General event duties
  • Experience with events and use of two-way radios preferred
  • Resources, induction, and supervision provided

Where: Event Operations Centre / Various
