During our 2024 event a technical issue with timing equipment delayed how quickly we could confirm the swim times for some swimmers. Around 360 participants were affected, which is less than 10% of Sunday’s swimmers, and thankfully we were able to use our back-up systems to resolve the issue.

While this was the first glitch in our event history, we were disappointed it happened. To ensure this doesn’t happen again we’ll be using the insights we gained to make several changes in 2025

  1. Reconfiguring the Finish Line: We’ll be creating a service chute along the finishing area to better protect our timing gear, eliminate accidental interference and provide easy access for staff to access the equipment.
  2. Enhanced Backup Systems: We’ll use a start and finish line timing mat AND a state-of-the-art camera system that films the finish line AND record timing chip data. This means we’ll have multiple back-up systems. The receiver antennas will also be elevated above the finish line to keep the equipment untouched and fully functional.

We were truly humbled by the understanding and support of our swimmers and apologise again to all of those affected.
